Tai Chi Yang Style 40 Forms

Duration: 106 mins

Tai Chi originated in ancient China and is based on nature and harmony. The flowing movements contain much inner strength for health and healing.

There are many styles and forms of tai chi all with different features. Yang is the most popular style characterised by gentle, graceful and expansive movements.

This 40 Forms set is more compact than the traditonal Yang 108 Forms yet contains all the features, techniques and internal energy of the style.

Dr. Lam started his tai chi journey with classical Yang style 108 Forms more than 30 years ago; nowadays he practises Yang style with this set because it is very well composed. You can learn all the techniques in less time.

    Yang Style 40 forms

The 40 Yang style form dvd provides some background on the self-defense purpose of the forms. It adds context to the exercises and is appreciated. Dr Lam's attention to detail and overall teaching method is excellent.

    Re-learning the Yang Style Form

Posted by Gayle Cole on 20th Apr 2022

During my life, I have learned and practiced the Yang Style Tai Chi form at two different times---once in my late 30's and again in my mid-50's. Each time my daily practice lasted for years, although I eventually lapsed and forgot many of the movements and sequence. Now, at 72, I want to incorporate Tai Chi into my daily life once again and have ordered Dr. Lam's video to help me do this. I find that Dr. Lam's version of Yang Style is a little bit different from the movements I learned in the past, so I am trying to learn his specific version. I like the way he goes through the movements from both front and back. I am still only on the 1st section, but am slowly making my way through it. Another benefit, is that I've had a bit of arthritis in one knee, but this Tai Chi practice is improving that situation immensely. Thank you Dr. Lam.

    Wonderful Addition

Posted by Unknown on 29th Apr 2020

Been practicing the Yang style 24 forms for about 2 years. The Yang 40 forms is a great addition to the 24 forms. Many of the forms are repeated but in a different order. Have only done the first section. Dr Lam is an excellent teacher.

After having bought the Tai Chi for beginners and the 24 Yang style forms I immediately begin practicing. Now that I have learned the style and now I am learning the 40 forms to increase my Tai Chi experience.

    Yang style 40 forms

Posted by Mark on 18th Jan 2017

I'm enjoying 40 forms, I liked 24 forms a little better because I'm a novice it was easier to follow, the more I practice with the dvd the better I like it. I think I will come to appreciate 40 forms as I become more proficient, its style assumes I am more advanced than I am.

I love the format of the 24 forms and wish the 40 forms would of been done the same way. That said it was easy to follow and learn from along with a class I take. I do wish after each form that you learn you have a review from the beginning.

    Excellent material

Best regards from Canada.

Very Nice but not quite perfect

Posted by Bob Doty on 8th Mar 2016

This is my fourth video from Dr. Lam. My favorite is the Tia Chi 24 forms. This video is very nice but a bit hard to follow because unlike the 24 forms video it is shot from the front on view and in order to follow one must reverse what appears in many of the forms. Overall I like all the videos from Dr. Lam but this 40 forms is not my favorite.
